Message from the President

Greetings from the President

It is a great honour and pleasure to tell you that Fuji Women’s University is celebrating its centenary this year. One hundred years ago three Catholic sisters from Germany started a senior high school in Sapporo with a view to providing girls in Hokkaido with quality education and ample opportunities for them to realize their full potential.

As we are getting into the second centenary, Fuji Women’s University is determined to further fulfill its educational mission by offering students updated knowledge and skills that enable them to better face the challenges of contemporary society, as well as to bring solutions to such challenges.

Fuji has two distinguished faculties: the Faculty of Humanities in Sapporo City and the Faculty of Well-being Studies in Ishikari City. Each faculty has three departments accommodating a total of one thousand eight hundred students who are supported by roughly seventy-five faculty members and by about seventy administrative staff.

It is our ambition to transform our university into a truly international academic institution that could serve as a “global commons” for young female students from every corner of the world to meet and learn together. It is therefore of vital importance to increase the number of international students coming to our university.

Hokkaido is located in the northern part of Japan, and this large island is rich in natural beauty from coast to coast. Sapporo in particular is an attractive city where a large number of international tourists come to visit and admire both the nature and city life. In comparison with other major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, it is much cooler and less humid in summer, and in winter you can enjoy various winter sports in the nearby mountains.

We would be very happy to welcome you to our university.
Please join us and together we will make a global commons in Sapporo, the breathtaking jewel of northern Japan!
See you soon.
